Jo Jo Burgess
JoJo Burgess - The Man, The Myth, The Spare Times
Born on a cold winters night, somewhere in the west of England, 5months after the biggest rock n' roll concert the planet has ever seen. JoJo Burgess took the time to jump ship of the womb and kick and scream his way into existence, with of course the ample assistance of his mother, who kept him warm and watered for a long nine months and then the subsequent 18 years to follow.
In The Beginning
JoJo's first musical experiences came at around three years old, whereby he and a childhood friend decided to turn the usually mundane metallic structure of a climbing frame into the stage for one of the greatest air guitar ensembles to grace the East Midlands in many a long year. It was said that the those licks could be heard as far as two gardens away.....
The Voice
JoJo's first venture into the world of the voice and the hidden depths of this orfice were at school. JoJo had always been an inquisitive little fellow, so decided to join the school choir more for the girls (which he had always kept an open eye on, even at age 8) than the singing. JoJo quickly got projected from the school choir to the school drama society (more for the fact of his sex, than any dreams of being an actor). It was through this Drama Society that JoJo got his first experience of being on the stage as a weasel in The Wind in The Willows Musical. JoJo's pining for the stage was certainly to grow from here, and saw him take lead roles in further school productions and also further down the road as an adult JoJo has been known to tread the boards in some very well received shows at the Edinburgh Fringe festival.
Strings?
Whilst learning to sing in the stage JoJo also attempted to turn his hand to the mastering of a musical instrument. After attempting and failing to learn the fiddle at age 8, and then in later years attempting to play the guitar it was clear to see that JoJo's skills were clearly in that of voice projection and not actual musical intrumentation mastermanship!
Rock N Roll
JoJo's first rock n' roll experience like that of many others before him, was at a school summer concert aged 13. He and some school pals started the band Phon (Dictionary Meaning: a unit for measuring the apparent loudness of a sound, equal in number for a given sound to the intensity in decibels of a sound having a frequency of 1000 cycles per second when, in the judgment of a group of listeners, the two sounds are of equal loudness) The group played the school concert performing covers of the popular 60'/70's favourites; All Right Now, Let It Be and one other that time has sadly forgotten.
Bands
Phon reformed later that summer and went about recording their self titled debut EP at a friends' home studio. Only one known copy of this album is known to still be in existance and is held under lock and key in JoJo's own personal vaults.
JoJo continued to perform irregularly with Phon, on and off for the next year before forming another school band called Pobel. (The Mob in German).
Pobel performed on and off for a number of years, until JoJo was 18 and had to leave town for university. However the band did perform many times to rave review at a popular venue in Leicester called the shed, where they were asked to perform for a very popular and prestiges' charity night supporting 80's chart toppers Doctor & The Medics.
It was through moving to Colchester to university and through the giant hand of fate that JoJo would meet Joel Fisk. Coveniently, fate had placed both JoJo and Joel in the same house together, and over a warm can of John Smiths bitter the two discussed life the world and everything. Discovering a shared love for the blues, and it was from here that this Mick and Keith risque relationship began.
From there the boys formed their first band together; Jellyroll.
Anyway to cut a long story short, the boys found Stephen on the internet (careful kids), they met him in a strange shed in Witham, and the rest is history.
T,t,t,th,th,th Thats All folks.
